What Automated Immigration at PVR Means for You

The Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) has recently installed new automated immigration screening, often referred to as “e-gates”. This technological addition is part of the airport’s overall growth plan, to accommodate and welcome travelers swiftly, securely, and efficiently.

Once fully installed, e-gates will allow travelers arriving on international flights to simply scan their passports, tap a few replies when prompted by the screen, and then generate a tourist visa. This system, for foreigners arriving at PVR, will streamline entry by reducing what can be lengthy lines to see an immigration official upon arrival, meaning vacationers can get out of the airport and be by the pool faster than ever before.

However, it is important to note that this automated system is currently only intended for vacationers arriving on international flights. If you have temporary or permanent residency status, it is recommended to see an immigration official upon entry, as there have been reports of residents being registered incorrectly as tourists, which could create difficulties with one’s residency status. Until further updates are provided, speaking to an official is advised.

Continued improvements to the Puerto Vallarta Airport are helping to keep tourism booming in our destination.
